So that’s why the January 6th Committee had to move up this hearing
When the January 6th Committee announced that it was holding a surprise hearing today, and then the star witness turned out to be Cassidy Hutchinson, the top aide to Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, it raised the question of why her testimony was suddenly being rushed into public. And why was the committee saying that this hearing would center around newly obtained evidence, when Hutchinson has reportedly been cooperating for months?
As the hearing played out, we began to get our answer. For one thing, Hutchinson reportedly received credible threats of violence. Having her publicly testify right now gets her testimony on the record, perhaps taking away the motivations of the deranged people making such threats. But what about that newly obtained evidence?
At the end of the hearing, we learned what appears to be the real reason the hearing was moved up. The committee displayed evidence that unnamed people in Trump world have been privately urging a witness not to cooperate with the committee. The committee then stated that an upcoming hearing will focus on this witness tampering. The witness wasn’t named, but the clear implication was that it was Hutchinson.
So it sounds a lot like someone in Trump world tried to intimidate Hutchinson into not cooperating, and she instead ratted that person out, and this hearing had to take place right now so the committee can quickly move on to the witness tampering.
The committee has made a habit of using the end of a public hearing to make some assertion, so Trump world will begin squirming and trying to clumsily deny it, only for the committee to then lay out in the next hearing that it has proof of what really happened. So our guess is that the person who tried to intimidate Hutchinson will now out himself or herself in the name of denying the whole thing, and then the committee will reveal proof of that person’s guilt.
Witness tampering, if it can be proven, is a felony you go to prison for. We can’t wait to find out who in Trump world was dumb enough to do this. Moreover, in the transcript presented by the committee, the witness tamperer claimed to be doing so on Donald Trump’s behalf. This just keeps getting uglier for Trump and his remaining henchmen.
