DOJ grand jury moves forward against Trump world
When the news broke that the DOJ carried out a pre-dawn search and seizure warrant against former Trump DOJ official Jeffrey Clark, some observers insisted it was only happening because of the January 6th Committee public hearing exposing Clark as having been at the center of Donald Trump’s election overthrow criminal plot.
But the facts line up differently. For one thing, that raid took place the day before the hearing, even though most people didn’t hear about the news until after the hearing had ended. More to the point, getting the courts to sign off on that kind of warrant requires having already amassed a ton of evidence against the individual. In other words, the DOJ has been investigating and targeting Clark for some time, and the raid was the culmination of that work, not the beginning of it.
While the courts had to sign off on the Clark warrant, a DOJ grand jury had to issue that warrant to begin with. Major newspapers reported months ago that the DOJ has had a January 6th grand jury targeting Trump world since at least January of this year, yet even as these public hearings have played out, the media has almost entirely ignored the existence of this grand jury. It’s why the Clark raid came as such shocking news to most audiences.
Now it turns out the DOJ grand jury is continuing to move forward. For instance, Trump stooge Ali Alexander testified to the grand jury for four hours yesterday, according to The Guardian’s Hugo Lowell. Alexander was involved in the January 6th pro-Trump rally, while Clark was working within the DOJ to try to overthrow the election, so there’s no clear connection between the two of them. So it’s likely that Alexander was testifying against others in Trump world, who can also expect warrants to be issued against them. It’s taken a long time for the DOJ to plow its way through all the massive groundwork required to get this far. But Alexander testifying to the grand jury is the latest sign that the DOJ Trump probe is reaching the big time.
