President Joe Biden is taking the gloves off. He’s savvy enough to understand that he’s best off not commenting substantively on the January 6th public hearings, because that’s a congressional probe into Trump’s crimes, and it’s best to let Congress be the one to craft the narrative. But Biden isn’t holding back whatsoever when it comes current Republican villainy.

Republican Senator Rick Scott has floated a hideous plan that would allow his party to corruptly remake social programs like Social Security and Medicare every few years if they’re in charge. Scott, in spite of being one of the biggest financial villains in American history, doesn’t have much of a national political profile for some reason. But Biden knows that Ted Cruz does – and that Cruz is largely detested by voters in the middle.

Accordingly, Biden is now focusing his messaging around the unpopular Ted Cruz. Biden tweeted “Ask yourself: How well are you going to sleep at night knowing that every five years Ted Cruz and other Congressional Republicans pushing ultra-MAGA policies are going to vote on whether you’ll have Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid? That’s their plan.”

Ted Cruz promptly took the bait, pushing back with a series of lame arbitrary retorts. This is what Biden wants, of course. If the 2022 midterms are widely seen as a choice between Joe Biden and Ted Cruz, let’s just say that Biden’s side will have the upper hand with mainstream voters.
