When Peter Navarro went on the air last week and frantically insisted he was going to punish his enemies, it was because he expected to be indicted soon. It’s always a de facto admission of fear. Sure enough, he was arrested the next day.

Steve Bannon is doing the same thing today. He’s screaming on his podcast, taunting the DOJ, and so on. Bannon has already been indicted for contempt and is out on bail while awaiting trial. He must be expecting to get hit with additional charges, or something along those lines.

It’s the latest reminder that when a villain puts on a performance like this and begins frantically making unrealistic threats, you never cower in response. What that villain is really doing is trying to convince himself that he’s somehow magically going to get away with it. It’s just a very loud expression of fear. Bannon knows he’s in deep, deep trouble – and his level of frenzied panic suggests he’s worried about a lot more than the year in prison that his contempt trial might get him.
