Supreme Court goes off the deep end
Agatha Christie was such a talented author. And I believe, were she alive today, she’d perhaps want to write about “The crooked house.” The crooked house is the name of one of her many novels. But I speak of a different crooked house. I speak of the peoples’ house — the Supreme Court.
I want to point you toward a fascinating article. It is interesting because, according to this article, the Court is reportedly losing its mind. Fear permeates the crooked Court. Anger is their best friend. Nobody knows who to trust. The leaker has not been found. Some of the Justices are turning on each other. And the atmosphere is corrosive.
I feel not a wit of sympathy, and neither should you. The crooked Court brought it all on themselves. If this article is accurate, their paranoia is out of control, and the atmosphere is one of blatant mistrust.
This article alleges that many of the law clerks are terrified. They are frightened because some of the Justices want to see the cell phones of the clerks. AND they’re being asked to sign affidavits.
The problem is — this leak is not a crime. And some of the clerks are reportedly worried that they could be implicated — even if they have done nothing wrong.
An example is used. Let’s say a law clerk had dinner months ago with a reporter. If a reporter’s number appears on the clerk’s cell phone, they could be in trouble even if the dinner was entirely innocent.
AND the Court themselves had ruled it is illegal to seize a cell phone without a warrant. This ruling was made eight years ago, and Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion.
So yes, things appear to be a mess for the Court. This is turning into a real whodunit — a real-life story that mirrors many of the books Christie wrote. But this isn’t a novel, and the court seems to be an eternal nightmare they cannot get away from.
The Court has been increasingly emboldened, making decisions on its “shadow docket” and attempting to legislate from the bench.
They’re no longer respected. How this lack of respect must be eating at them! But again, it is their fault. The Supreme Court opened itself up to the rot from within (also from a Christie book.) They have nobody to blame but themselves.
