January 6th public hearings start off with a bang
The first January 6th public hearing has only been underway for several minutes. But already, the committee is making the case that Donald Trump was at the dead center of the criminal conspiracy to try to overthrow the 2020 presidential election.
Thus far the committee has invoked multiple video clips of Bill Barr’s closed door testimony, including one where Barr plainly refers to Trump’s stolen election claims as “bullshit.” In other video clip, Ivanka Trump testifies that when Barr told her there was no evidence the election was stolen, she believed Barr.
The committee has also rolled out already-public footage of Mike Pence admitting that Trump’s claims of a stolen election were false. Then footage was shown of Pence’s own former Chief of Staff, confirming the same.
The committee is also spelling out how some of Trump’s top allies pleaded the Fifth Amendment to the committee, while others sought pardons from Trump in relation to the election plot – the latter suggesting that they knew they were participating in a criminal conspiracy. This is all just getting started.
