Matthew McConaughey comes out swinging on gun reform
This is the story of three Texans. One of them is Beto O’Rourke. Beto cares deeply about the people of the lone-star state. He is one of them, and it is his wish to serve and help Texas get back to what they once were.
Beto is a good man and would make an outstanding Governor of Texas. It is this writer’s wish that he wins in November and that we can proudly refer to him as Governor O’Rourke. The second story is about an actor. An academy award winner, activist, and movie star, Matthew McConaughey, was born in Uvalde, Texas.
And he was horrified — as were all of us — at the school shooting in his hometown. And today, he spoke passionately about the need for gun reform. Matthew McConaughey didn’t have to do this.
He did it, though. With raw emotion tearing through his voice, he spoke. And he spoke with humility. How nice it is whenever one sees humility. It is something we ran short of during the Trump years.
It would be so nice to end this article here. It would be so nice to speak about courage — faith — humility — only in regards to these two good, courageous men. But alas, there is one in every crowd. And that brings us to the third man. Greg Abbott.
Never shall I call him Governor. Never should you. If we thought he was terrible before — what about now? The leopard’s spots have multiplied. The monster has gotten even worse. No meetings on gun reform in Texas. No emotional speeches from Mr. Abbott.
What about the children, Mr. Abbott? DO YOU GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE CHILDREN? And what of a possible police cover-up in Uvalde? Updates to the public? Many journalists report they cannot get the police to speak with them. On Lawrence O’Donnell the other night, he wanted to know who had been fired. After all, Abbott did say he’d been “misled.”
It doesn’t appear ANYBODY has been fired. Where are you, Greg Abbott? What are you DOING? This is a story of three Texans. Two are mighty and do credit to the lone-star state. And one of them is a failure — an albatross for Texans — a lying machine — that this writer hopes to see thrown out of office in November.
