These idiots have screwed themselves

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

A few days after the infamous Supreme Court draft memo about abortion leaked, polling from Yahoo News showed that the leak gave the Democrats an instant five point advantage over the Republicans on the generic midterm election ballot. After I wrote about that news, a political pundit – who for his sake will remain nameless in this article – tried to convince me that the public would quickly forget about Roe v. Wade being overturned, and that the midterms would be decided on economic struggles… or something.

But now here we are the better part of three weeks out from the leaked memo, and a new poll from NPR, PBS NewsHour, and Marist also shows that the Democrats have a five point advantage in the midterms. Consistent data like this is how you start to see the formation of new polling averages, which is when you can start to trust the polls more after a major real world shift.

Moreover, this means that weeks after the leak, voters are still very much focused on the Roe v. Wade crisis. For reference, before the leaked memo, the NPR / PBS NewsHour / Marist poll gave the Republicans a three point advantage. That suggests that the memo has caused an eight point swing. If anything, that number might grow even larger if and when the Supreme Court actually hands down its hideous ruling.

For decades, the right wing understood that the key to gaining electoral power was to keep vowing to overturn Roe v. Wade – thus motivating the anti abortion minority to vote in force – but to never actually overturn it, so the majority wouldn’t turn out and vote with the same force. These idiots have screwed themselves by plotting to actually overturn Roe v. Wade, and this heinously deranged move is clearly altering the American political landscape in real time. Eight points may not sound like a big deal, but could very well mean the difference between winning or losing the next few elections.
