The January 6th Committee has backed Kevin McCarthy into a no win corner

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Kevin McCarthy has a problem. Since being served with a nice flashy subpoena, it appears all is not well in McCarthy-land. This is evidenced by the fact that cowardly Kevin is — nowhere to be found.

Kevin usually holds a weekly press conference. These press conferences typically don’t amount to much, as Kevin often uses them to try to generate fake news stories. But there was no press conference on this Friday (the thirteenth), only an ominous silence.

McCarthy has a significant looming decision, and one cannot imagine he is happy about it. The big question is — will he or won’t he honor the subpoena? If he doesn’t, he is potentially looking at criminal liability. Of course, we cannot be sure the January 6 committee would refer him to the Department of Justice, but they might. Kevin is likely very worried about it.

But if he talks to the committee, he would have to lie. It isn’t like he could tell the truth. His boss, Donald Trump, would likely hate that.

So this has indeed turned into a soap opera for little Kevin. And it is because of that soap opera I believe he is playing hide and seek with reporters. What could he say? And how could he say it? So in the upcoming days, McCarthy has a big decision to make. None of his options are good ones, and he must know that.

This is the moment he has likely been dreading. He is in the eye of the storm, metaphorically speaking. He may have a brief quiet reprieve as the storm’s eye hovers. But as we all know, with these storms, it is always just a matter of time until the heart of the cyclone hits.
