Thank you Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen for saying out loud what many of us know when you spoke in front of the Senate Banking Committee. Yes, overturning Roe would prevent some women from completing their eduction. It would reduce their lifetime earnings potential and reduce their overall participation in the labor market.

To the likes of Sen. Tim Scott trying to connect overturning Roe and “framing it in the context of labor force participation, it just feels callous to me” were his words. Callous, he said. So it isn’t ‘callous’ to force a woman to give birth to a child they cannot take care of. We don’t allow 16 year olds to adopt a child, but states will force a 16 year old who finds herself pregnant to carry to term that fetus and deliver a baby into this world that she has little to no ability to care for emotionally or financially.

Or is it that Republicans like Scott see less women in the workforce as a way to have more men working, even though we know that too often in too many places women still earn much less than their male counterpart.

The progress that women have made in the workplace would be ‘set back decades’ Yellen went on to say….but everything about the Republicans is to ‘return’ to a time and place that no longer exist. They would like women/wives at home and pregnant with dinner nicely prepared on the table when they get home, but on the man’s timeframe/impulses….a fairytale of days gone by. The days of “Father Knows Best” are long over.
