A day of reckoning is coming
The state of Georgia appears ready for trouble when the grand jury investigating Donald Trump’s election interference convenes this month. According to CNN, roads around the courthouse will be closed off, snipers will be stationed on the roof, and police K-9 dogs will be prepared to act. What have we come to in this country? When a grand jury cannot investigate possible criminal activity without high-level security, something is wrong. Grand juries do this every day, but when the target of a probe is a race baiter, things look a little different.
CNN reported that Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s aide Jordan Fuchs became involved in the call as Trump and Meadows pressured Raffensperger. “Need to end this call,” Jordan texted to Meadows. Knowing this conversation was leading nowhere, Fuchs texted: “Let’s save the relationship.” When Meadows finally took the hint and ended the call, Fuchs said: “Thank you. Wow.” So, even the Secretary of State’s office knew what took place was wrong, and when a Black district attorney decided to investigate, it became a racial issue, including threats. Interestingly, DA Fani Willis’s investigation goes far beyond that phone call.
Willis is not only investigating Trump’s request to “find 11,000 votes,” but she is also looking into his call with “another official” in the Secretary of State’s office, Rudy Giuliani’s less than factual “presentation” to Georgia lawmakers, Lindsey Graham’s call to Raffensperger, and the sudden resignation of Byung “BJay” Pak, who was the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. The upcoming Georgia primary will delay things, as Willis told CNN that “several witnesses are on the ballot,” and she chooses not to interfere in an election, unlike some other people. One who specifically comes to mind is David Perdue, who is challenging Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. Perdue spent his entire time in the candidates’ debate spewing lies that the 2020 election was stolen. There is also evidence that Perdue tried to “backchannel with Georgia officials” on this same nonsense. Yet, this fool is running for governor of Georgia. He’s the last thing we need in the governor’s mansion.
This investigation may not only show that Trump violated Georgia law, but CNN reported that Willis is investigating “a broader conspiracy” to overturn the election in Georgia. The charges she is investigating include “solicitation of election fraud, making false statements to government bodies, conspiracy, racketeering, violation of oath of office, and violence or threats related to election administration.” Willis is not playing with these people, nor should she. This type of behavior needs to stop. This is only the beginning of this investigation, as a grand jury can only recommend an indictment. Should this jury do so, the case will move to a grand jury in Fulton County, which will be empowered to issue indictments as it sees fit.
While some see this entire issue as “trying to get Trump,” it is aimed at rooting corruption out of our governmental bodies, and that is sorely needed. Willis should be applauded for her bravery because she has become and will continue to be a target of crazed Trump supporters.
