It is never a pretty thing when one comes face to face with their own hubris. In fact, it can be pretty unpleasant. If, however one can learn from the experience, then perhaps this can turn into a good thing.

People rarely do, though. It is hard for a leopard to change its spots. And it is very hard for someone infected with hubris to rid themselves of the deadly sin. Just ask Madison Cawthorn. Cawthorn is flailing. He is a victim of hubris, arrogance, ego, and greed. And now, according to to a report from the Wall Street Journal, it is no longer definitive that Cawthorn will be reelected.

This should surprise nobody who has been paying attention. Cawthorn’s a train-wreck. Some philosophers and psychologists might talk about self-sabotage. It’s certainly a possibility. But it isn’t the “why” that matters here — it’s the what.

What is Cawthorn’s next move? For all Cawthorn’s outer bravado, he is a young man — a kid, honestly. He’s in the middle of a high-stakes poker game, but he’s leaving “tells” all over the place. And he’s up against experienced players. In other words, Cawthorn, is a baby when it comes to politics.

Some voters are angry at him, saying he is only interested in “grandstanding.” Others are just plain angry.

And he has made gaffe after gaffe after gaffe. And then, of course, there are the lingerie photos that undoubtedly everybody has heard about.

I could not care less what Cawthorn does, what he wears, or who he wears it with. It’s the hypocrisy. Although for, Republicans, some of them undoubtedly do care. And these illicit photos certainly won’t help him.

There does appear to be a lot of betrayal and backstabbing going on with the GOP lately, yes? In Cawthorn’s case, I feel that he would be doing himself a favor to drop out of running for reelection.

He’s too young. He’s too immature. And he obviously cannot handle the fame. I don’t expect him to do this because, as I said — people with the disease of hubris usually only allow their hubris to GROW, not to subside.
