Ugly new allegations against Madison Cawthorn from former employee
North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn cannot seem to stay out of the news — and usually, it’s for all the wrong reasons. Besides being a bad politician, Cawthorn just might be the boss from hell as well — at least according to Lisa Wiggins, who used to work for Cawthorn. Wiggins has filed a workplace complaint against Cawthorn.
In the complaint, she claims Cawthorn “violated the Family and Medical Leave Act.” He did this, Wiggins says, by refusing to let her take a leave when several personal family emergencies came up.
Wiggins also had a conversation with David Wheeler in a telephone conversation that leaked. In this conversation, she claims something else interesting — that Cawthorn’s office was filled with liquor bottles. Booze, according to Wiggins, was one of Cawthorn’s true loves. “A lot of it’s the partying and the drinking” she said.
She also claims Cawthorn would avoid conversations with his constituents.
The leave that Wiggins was denied had to do with sick family members. Reportedly, her Uncle had tragically passed away, and her husband had a heart attack — all in the same week. In the Family and Medical Leave Act, it allows employees job-protected leave for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is to care for a family member for medical reasons.
This story is rather new, but it has already gained much traction. I wouldn’t be surprised anymore, about anything Cawthorn does. Cawthorn appears to be one without much empathy. If these accusations are indeed true, his actions also reveal a callous man with a soul as cold as the coldest January night.
With all the problems Cawthorn has, including his awful fundraising numbers, it’s increasingly difficult to see him winning in November. He still might, of course, but it’s getting tougher and more challenging. Cawthorn has run into mighty troubled waters, and right now, he hasn’t seemed to have found a lifeboat.
