There’s no line these Republicans won’t cross
Republicans stand for nothing. Any type of platform they had is long gone, and it seems they know it. That is perhaps why they have turned their attention toward other matters of GOP urgency — such as going after trans kids, banning books, shaming gay people, and yanking rights away from women.
Well — now they’re going after something else — unemployment insurance. It is no secret that Republicans had always hated it when our government stepped in to help anyone. This is because Republicans — most of them — usually do not deem many worth helping. They look down their noses at these people. Folks who are not in the top 1 percent get short shrift from most in the GOP.
And now it’s being reported that lawmakers in some states are eyeing the dissolution or cutting back of unemployment benefits. “Lawmakers in at least nine states have considered legislation to amend benefits.” Some of the things Republicans want to do include:
– Cut back the amount people receive.
– Make the work search program much stricter.
– Decrease the duration of unemployment.
And that is just to name a few.
Here are some of the states that have bills like this pending: Wisconsin, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Kentucky, and Mississippi through the Mississippi one reportedly did not move forward.
But this appears to be a trend with Republicans. And you can bet there will be more legislation like this in even more states. The matter of unemployment is a kitchen table issue just like health care, Social Security, and economic growth.
These are all things Republicans would take away or do not care about. So these are issues we must highlight in the midterms and run on. We usually have major success when we do. It’s the economy, stupid. That is correct. But it’s also Social Security stupid. It’s health care. It’s unemployment that can save lives.
The GOP is the party of taking things away from the American people. Please tell others to ponder this. HOW much has the GOP wanted to take from us? The number is infinite. Now answer me this: HOW MUCH has the GOP tried to give us, the American people? The answer is zero. They take away; they don’t give. Generosity and kindness know no place in their non-existent platforms.
