Putin’s genocidal ambitions become clear as he circles the drain
We’ve all seen the photos of the dead Ukrainian civilians with their hands tied behind their back. Ukraine is calling it genocide. Three hundred corpses in a mass grave is certainly mass murder, but genocide has a very specific definition that involves targeting a certain group. When civilians take up arms against an invader, mass murder frequently occurs. This could certainly be the beginning of an intentional genocide of the Ukrainian people but we’re not at the scale of that yet.
Having more closely defined our outrage over what Russia is inflicting on the Ukrainians right now, we would like you to refocus that outrage on Tucker Carlson. He doesn’t care about what’s happening in Russia, but he certainly is rooting for them according to his actual appearance on Fox News. This will now produce the effect that every Trumpster will now deem pictures of civilian deaths in Ukraine photoshopped or a deep fake. Your neighbor with the Trump flag will be saying whatever is going on “over there” is because Russia is getting rid of Nazis and Nazis are bad.
Yes, Nazis are bad. And Holocaust denial is truly their thing. Not only do they deny it now, but they were denying it in real time. One of the main definitions of genocide is denial. The Nazis certainly used it. Their gas chambers were disguised as showers. The Zyklon B trucks were labeled with a red cross. Jews and other untermenschen weren’t being exterminated they were being “deported to the east.” Somewhere over there. Somewhere we don’t have to care about.
And Tucker’s appearance on Fox had all the key points of propaganda including the very useful, “I don’t care about them, I only care about my country.” When Jews had their citizenship taken away in Germany even after having several generations in Germany and fighting wars for Germany, every German could rightly then say, “Germany for the Germans.” And they did. This is all very predictable and a blueprint for fascism. As the writer, Edna St. Vincent Millay said, “It’s not true that life is one damn thing after another—it’s one damn thing over & over.” We couldn’t agree more.
