The actions of the January 6th Committee haven’t been getting most of the headlines of late, due to Vladimir Putin’s psychotic antics. But the committee is continuing to rack up wins and make major progress. The committee did score one big recent headline when it alleged in a court filing that Donald Trump and his lawyer John Eastman participated in a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the election, while arguing that attorney-client privilege doesn’t apply.

Eastman responded by asking the judge in the case to delay things, on the sole basis of how unprecedented it is that a former President of the United States is being accused of criminal behavior by Congress in a court filing. But the judge has quickly thrown out Eastman’s request.

It’s nearly a given that the judge will end up ruling that the January 6th Committee can have Eastman’s emails, given that the law is so plain here. And because the emails are already in the possession of a University that says it wants to be allowed to turn them over, the committee will have no trouble immediately obtaining them once the judge rules in its favor. The only question has been whether Eastman could significantly drag out his loss. This new ruling, swift in nature and entirely in the committee’s favor, suggests the committee will have Eastman’s emails sooner rather than later.
