While the former guy’s administration liked to boast about Made in America week and saving manufacturing jobs, the manufacturing sector of the economy actually went into recession on his watch at the end of 2019 – well before the COVID pandemic began. While the rhetoric may have worked on his base, it wasn’t really enforced in any meaningful way.

President Biden, however, is delivering on the promise of buying and hiring American. On Friday, the administration announced an update to the rules of the Buy American Act of 1933 – requiring the federal government to give preference to American-made products. In the past, for products to meet the definition of American-made at least 55% of their value had to be manufactured in this country. The administration plans to raise that to 75% over the next seven years – with an increase of 60% to happen over this year alone.

Every year, the federal government spends about $600 billion on procurement – providing an array of opportunities for domestic manufacturing firms – many of which are small and medium-sized. We’re already seeing the results of the Biden boom, coming out of February with better job numbers than predicted – many of which are jobs related to infrastructure made possible by legislation passed by President Biden and the Democrats. It’s been just over 13 months since President Biden took office and we’re already seeing significant results for the better, with America being steered in the right direction.
