An Oath Keeper just pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy, and Roger Stone’s life just became hell
When the Department of Justice started bringing seditious conspiracy charges against numerous Oath Keepers, two things were clear. First, the DOJ was clearly looking to establish that the January 6th attack was in fact a seditious criminal conspiracy to overthrow the United States. Second, it was pretty clear that the DOJ was looking to flip one or more Oath Keepers upward against higher level targets; it’s why you bring conspiracy charges to begin with.
Sure enough, Joshua James – a local level Oath Keepers leader – has now pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy and has cut a cooperating plea deal with the DOJ. This means that he now has to give up everyone – and in fact has already begun giving them up in his proffer session, which would have taken place before his guilty plea.
This means that James is giving up everyone he conspired with. That’s particularly bad news for Roger Stone, because James isn’t just any Oath Keeper – he’s the particular Oath Keeper who served as Stone’s golf cart chauffeur during the events leading up to the Capitol attack.
In other words, James is giving the DOJ every word that he and Roger Stone discussed about the Capitol attack, every move that Stone made, every place that Stone was, and everyone else Stone was conversing with. It’s now almost impossible to imagine that Stone won’t be criminally indicted for seditious conspiracy. And if Stone ultimately decide he has to cut a plea deal of his own, he’d have to flip on Donald Trump.
