GOP Senators just reached a whole new hypocritical low

“Irony” is defined as “a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.” Hypocritical, which is often used in a religious context, also applies in other cases and is interchangeable with the words “sanctimonious, pious, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, insincere, and many other words. Both come into play when listening to Republicans whine about President Biden’s determination to choose a Black woman for the Supreme Court.

When Donald Trump pushed Amy Coney Barrett down our throats, Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker called her a “great role model” for his granddaughters. Now that President Biden is following through on his own promise, the choice is “affirmative action.” Which is it, Wicker? Was it not “affirmative action” for Trump to declare appointing a woman or is the difference the color of the woman’s skin? Similarly, Ted Cruz calls President Biden’s declaration “offensive” because he is “excluding other candidates from the outset,” the Hill reported. Jen Psaki stuck it to Cruz in her so eloquent way by pointing out to Cruz that he had no issue when Trump declared his choice would be female. Psaki is going to be sorely missed when she leaves. She is the perfect foil to these ridiculous Republican senators. Psaki also reminded Cruz that, like Wicker, he found Barrett to be “an amazing role model for little girls.” Do little Black girls not deserve a role model?

Neither Wicker nor Cruz care about President Biden’s choice; they are just hypocritical assholes, and the irony of their words is lost on no one. The hypocritical comments from other Republican Senators will similarly come into play. During Barrett’s confirming hearings, Lindsey Graham claimed that “the Senate no longer judged a candidate solely on their credentials” while Susan Collins commented during Gorsuch’s confirmation: “the president has wide discretion when it comes to his nominations to the Supreme Court,” yet following Justice Breyer’s announcement, Collins said that President Biden “had politicized the process by promising to choose a Black woman to serve on the high court.” So, what has changed? Nothing. We have a Democratic president who is trying to honor his promise to the American people, and Republicans are merely displaying their standards of hypocrisy and irony. It is unfortunate that they are good for little else.

Despite the typical behavior of some Republicans, President Biden continues reaching across the aisle, trying to get Republicans to do the jobs for which they were elected. Say what you will about President Biden, but he is a good man and a great president. Of all Republican senators seemingly supporting the President’s ability to choose, Lindsey Graham has been open about his support. “Put me in the camp of making sure the court and other institutions look like America,” he recently said. As it should be. It is a shame that it has taken this long to get there. The other whining Republicans can go to hell. They never have and never will adequately serve the people in their constituencies, let alone the rest of the American people.
