The Republican Congress is imploding
Did you hear that splintering sound? That was the sound of the Republican party breaking into shards. It would appear war is most definitely on for the “Rest in Peace” party. This week the Republicans have begun going to war against each other.
Republicans are taking sides, and this unending quarreling appears to be all they’re doing these days. And now the Turtle has waded into the mud-filled swamp. Moscow Mitch McConnell has weighed in — and he’s got a lot to say.
The Turtle denounced January 6 as a “violent insurrection,” which anybody with one functioning brain cell clearly knows it was.
“We saw it happen,” the Turtle said sternly. “It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election. From one administration to the next. That’s what it was.”
While I’m glad the Turtle awakened from his slumbers and crawled out of his shell to say that, I doubt it was for the good of the country.
Reportedly, McConnell hates Trump. You can see the distaste for the orange blob positively dripping from turtle McConnell’s pores. I suspect McConnell never liked Trump all that much, but now it’s been reported the two men aren’t even on speaking terms.
McConnell also came out against the censuring of Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, saying pushing out members of the same Party for having differing opinions is “not the job of the R.N.C.”
This may be all well and good, but several Republicans are splitting from the Turtle and coming out to support the Censure. One of those Republicans is House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, who appeared positively gleeful about it. This might be because Stefanik stepped into Cheney’s shoes after Liz was pushed from her position in leadership.
So, it would appear the GOP has reached an impasse. Nobody seems able to agree on anything inside the dysfunctional Party. I’m just waiting for a story on television entitled “Republicans in disarray.” So far, I haven’t seen it.
