This is just embarrassing for Rudy Giuliani
Rudy Giuliani has pretty much given up everything for the honor of cozying up to Donald Trump. Once upon a time, he was “America’s Mayor.” People loved the guy. Now, I am not one of those people, just for the record. But I know quite a few people who at one point at least respected him.
And Rudy has lost a great deal. He has lost friends. He’s lost the respect of almost everybody. He is considered a pariah — a laughing stock. Even Fox Non-News will not feature him. He is off the radar of anybody sane. He has gone over to the other side. And now Rudy has lost something else.
Per CBS News, The University of Rhode Island has revoked the honorary degree given to the former New York Mayor. It is not just Rudy. Michael Flynn saw the same thing happen. Here is what the Board of Trustees had to say about it all.
“The Board of Trustees supports the University and its mission to uphold its values, especially its commitment to intellectual and ethical leadership and fostering an environment of diversity and respect.”
The President of the University Marc Parlange added: “Revoking these honorary degrees reinforces our values and allows us to lead with truth and integrity.”
Bravo to the University. But I want to say something about all this. Sometimes I am snarky in my writing. And sometimes, when evil people get what they deserve, I am, along with many of you, I’m sure, are gleeful. Both Rudy and Flynn got what they deserved. This was the correct decision. But we mustn’t forget the human tragedy behind all this. We must not forget the others.
I think of all the others — thousands — millions — of family members who have loved (and still love) and lost someone to Trumpism. Spouses. Parents. Children. Brothers. Sisters. Friends.
