Have you heard the expression “Better to light a candle than curse the darkness? We are coming up on the one-year anniversary of one of the darkest, most terrifying days this country has ever seen.

That day is January 6. It was the day American terrorists, unencumbered by norms, enmeshed in hate and rage, attacked our beloved Capitol This is a date I am sure few are looking forward to. But out of the engulfing darkness, a soft flicker of candlelight has emerged.

It’s been announced that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver remarks on January 6 No doubt, these remarks will be of a healing nature. They will undoubtedly contain soothing phrases of hope, empathy, and love for our country.

We KNOW this because that is who Biden and Harris are. They’re like sunlight, and the sunlight is effervescent. It is always there, sometimes just when one needs it the most. And the darkness that is Donald Trump has dissipated — at least for now. It is being reported that Trump has canceled his press conference scheduled for that day.

Perhaps someone was able to talk some sense into the insurrectionist. Or perhaps this cancellation has to do with the fact that Trump has just been sued again by three more police Officers seeking damages for emotional distress and physical injuries.

In any event, it is good to know we will not have to worry about Trump on such a serious day There will be other things happening that day, including a prayer vigil and a moment of silence.

I am confident that the day will be commemorated with solemnity and grace — because we have a White House that understands what was done that day and what it means The candle burns brighter than any darkness that enemies might attempt to bring, and if anyone understands this, it is President Biden.
