Here’s why Beto O’Rourke can win
Steve Phillips had a fascinating article in thenation.com. It was about Beto O’Rourke. Phillips believes Beto can be the next Governor of Texas. The article is titled: “Texas is Winnable. Beto’s the candidate to Do it.”
In this article, Phillips says that by molding an election turnout to mirror what Stacy Abrams did in Georgia, Beto can not only win but permanently change the political landscape of Texas.
Phillips argues that the notion that Texas is a “red state is incorrect.” He says Texas is poised to become the “next Georgia,” and I agree. Think about it. Texas has seen such a shift in its demographics. Phillips says that “Latinos and African Americans are now the majority of the state’s population.”
I agree. I know because I lived in Texas for a very brief period. It wasn’t for long. But I will say that I met more people of different cultures in my brief time in Texas than in all my years outside of Texas. Texas is a giant and colorful globe of culture, a simmering melting-pot of different nationalities, religions, and heritages. It is an epicenter of customs and lifestyles.
And there is a good chance if Beto can tap into that epicenter and reach a majority of the individuals that inhabit it, that he can pull it off and change the destiny of the Lone Star state forever.
It is an excellent article, well worth reading, and makes clear that we have a real chance of real change for a state that has been waiting a long time for such changes to find it.
