Donald Trump’s goons are now trying to destroy Republican Senator Rick Scott

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the weekend it was reported that the National Republican Senatorial Committee had decided to put its money behind incumbent Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, thus siding against Donald Trump’s handpicked Republican primary challenger to Murkowski. This was notable both because the GOP has clearly realized it has to get away from Trump’s antics in order to have a chance in the midterms, and because the NRSC is run by Rick Scott.

Rick Scott is a career criminal who also moonlights as a Republican Senator from Florida. He’s also a longtime Trump loyalist who stood with Trump through his 2020 election conspiracy theories. But now Scott is predictably going where the money is, instead of standing by Trump – and in response, Trump’s goons are turning sharply against him.

One Trump goon tweeted “Do not send a penny to NRSC.” Another Trump goon tweeted this: “Everyone that lives in Florida please be on the lookout for somebody to primary Rick Scott in 24. He is a rino through and through. We need a true America first Senator. Not somebody who wants to help another rino (Lisa Murkowski) win reelection.”

It’s far too early to predict which way the wind will be blowing in 2024, by which time Trump will have been criminally indicted in multiple states (if he hasn’t croaked yet), and by which time his base may have decided to crawl back under a rock. But if right wing activists want to waste the next year threatening to defund and primary each other in response to Trump’s ongoing downfall, instead of focusing on trying to win the midterms, it’s good news for the Democrats.
