Donald Trump’s 2024 pipe dream is falling to pieces

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The media this week: Trump is so unpopular, republicans in Virginia don’t even want him campaigning for them. Also the media this week: Trump is so popular, he’ll magically win in 2024.

Well which one is it? Can’t be both. If Trump is so overwhelmingly unpopular in a key swing state like Virginia that the Republican candidate for Governor is afraid to stand next to him, then Trump’s chances of winning the 2024 presidential election are nearly zero.

But when a narrative is built around manipulating your fears in order to keep you tuned in, it doesn’t have to make sense. It only has to get you to feel a certain way. So of course, in these lean times for ratings, a desperate media is doing everything it can to convince you that Trump will magically win in 2024 no matter what. And when a ratings-friendly storyline comes along such as the Republicans not wanting Trump to come to Virginia this week, which clearly disproves the claim that Trump is magically going to win in 2024, the media just shoves both narratives at us. Trump is extremely popular and extremely unpopular.

Of course much of this is based on the media’s other ratings-driven narrative, which is that the Republicans have somehow magically rigged the 2024 election such that Trump will win no matter how unpopular he is. But the media spent all of 2020 feeding us this same scary story so we’d stay tuned in, and we all saw that it turned out to be total bullshit. The Republicans do not have a magic lever on their desk that they can simply slide in order to rig an election. Nothing is ever that braindead simplistic, no matter how many times the media insinuates otherwise.

So the next time the media comes up with some scary new ghost story about how we’re all doomed no matter what and Donald Trump has somehow magically defeated us, keep in mind that it’s coming from the same folks who are currently trying to keep us tuned in by insisting that Trump is simultaneously very popular and very unpopular. Just ignore it and focus on putting in the basic legwork required to win any election: voter registration, donations, volunteering, educating the people around you, amplifying Trump’s worst scandals, and getting out the vote. It’s how we won in 2020. IF we put in the work, it’s how we’ll win in 2021, 2022, and 2024. In politics, there are never any magic wands on either side. Stop listening to media pundits who insist there are.
