The next big thing
We’re fresh off a massive, overwhelming win the California Governor recall race, to the tune of about twenty-eight points. This proves we can mobilize and turn out the vote just as well in 2021 as we were able to during the Trump era, and it gives us clear momentum heading into the 2022 midterms. But that’s actually not the next big thing.
There are in fact a couple of very important state elections taking place in November of 2021, which is just about six weeks from now. The highest profile race in November is the one for Governor of Virginia, which has no incumbent. Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe, a solid guy, is up by about five points in the polling averages over Trumpublican extremist Glenn Youngkin. Five points isn’t enough to rest easy, so we’ll have to work hard these next six weeks to make sure McAuliffe wins. You can donate to him or volunteer for him, no matter what state you live in.
New Jersey’s Democratic Governor Phil Murphy is also up for reelection this November. The handful of recent polls are highly inconsistent, suggesting that he’s currently ahead by anywhere from three points to nineteen points. Obviously we’ll need to get behind Murphy as well, as we wait for the polling averages to stabilize, because we don’t want New Jersey to fall into the hands of the next Chris Christie.
Again, these November 2021 elections are taking place just about six weeks from now. The time to get involved is right now. The key is to make it a nationwide effort. Even if you don’t live anywhere near either of these two states, you can still do volunteer work online and remotely. And of course donating to these two candidates will help them with their ground games. California proved that we’re a force to be reckoned with. Let’s put in the work to keep that momentum going and win the next round of elections this November.
