Good news for the Democrats in the midterms

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

While Wednesday was a fairly dark day for American democracy, provoking a fair amount of righteous indignation over the Supreme Court ruling in favor of SB 8, Democratic hopes for the Senate got a bit brighter, as Donald Trump made an endorsement in the 2022 race for Pennsylvania’s open U.S. Senate seat: Sean Parnell. Palmer Report previously wrote about Parnell who made a name for himself by trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Pennsylvania and even disputed his own failed election bid against Rep. Conor Lamb, who is running in the Democratic primary for the same seat.

Whether or not this ends up being a rematch against these two candidates is a different story, but whoever wins the Democratic nomination, should Parnell win the Republican nomination, is able to use this against him by asking whether or not he believes in the results of the 2020 election. Whichever way he answers is likely to cost votes, particularly as the investigation of the January 6 insurrection continues to heat up.

Democrats should push this question about not just the 2020 election results but also a question of how likely the Republican nominee is to accept the election results even if the nominee isn’t Parnell. Trump’s pick however, made it considerably more likely that Parnell will be the one – even though Trump’s been advised by party leadership against making endorsements this early in states that President Biden won. Not only do we need to keep the Senate next year, but make gains for the president to enact his agenda for America. Stay as determined as ever to fight for the future of our democracy.
