Donald Trump is losing Republican support by the minute and he knows it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump has a new problem. His crushing unpopularity in approval ratings polls, his Russia collusion scandal, the probes into his lifetime of financial crimes, and his rapidly diminishing mental capacity are problematic enough for him. But now Trump is facing something that could eat him alive even more quickly: he’s losing Republican support by the minute. Moreover, it seems to be driving him further off the deep end, and his attempts at stopping the bleeding aren’t helping.

For instance here’s what Donald Trump tweeted this morning: “Don’t give up Republican Senators, the World is watching: Repeal & Replace…and go to 51 votes (nuke option), get Cross State Lines & more.” (link). “Don’t give up” is what you yell at your team after they’ve given up. Sure, the Republicans might take another stab at sabotaging ObamaCare later. But if they do, it’ll be purely for their own reasons, and not because a sinking Trump desperately needs an immediate victory to hang his hat on. They’re past the point of being willing to prop him up at the risk of their own viability.

This latest desperate Twitter post comes one day after Trump tweeted a cryptic threat against the Republicans in Congress which has alternately been interpreted as either threatening to take their own congressional health insurance away, or threatening to financially punish the states they represent. But that posturing got Trump nowhere, and now he’s reduced to little more than begging the party to take him back after it unceremoniously broke up with him during the TrumpCare vote.

As always we should point out that this latest “Trump tweet” was almost certainly written by a member of Trump’s staff, as it’s yet another flawed attempt at mimicking him. For instance the ghostwriter of this latest tweet tried capitalizing random words, as Trump often does, but failed to get the gist of which kinds of words Trump chooses to improperly capitalize. It appears Trump has become so dejected by his failure that he can’t even bring himself to type out his own tweets anymore; we don’t believe he’s done any of his own tweeting in a little over a month.
