The truth is going to come out

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It must suck to be a real Republican these days. They are being rapidly outflanked by their more, shall we say, “different” counterparts, who are determined to keep up the charade that what happened on January 6 was not an insurrection. Adam Kinzinger is one of those real Republicans, and he taking his position on the select committee seriously. Politico reported that Kinzinger said: “I would expect to see a significant amount of subpoenas” during his appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

As Politico reported, Kinzinger is quite frustrated with many of his fellow Republicans, and he is determined to get to the bottom of the insurrection, even if it involves members of Congress. As a result of Kinzinger’s determination, the subpoena list could well include former “president” Donald Trump. Kinzinger wants “to know what the president was doing every moment of that day.” He further questioned why his fellow Republicans are afraid of the investigation if they did nothing wrong. One representative that the committee likely wants to hear from is Jim Jordan. So do we.

Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele, who is now a member of the Lincoln Project, did not hold back in his appearance on the Project’s show, the Breakdown. His focus was on Jim Jordan, who claims to not remember when he spoke with Trump on the day of the insurrection. Steele said that he can recall every conversation with every president with whom he has ever spoken, beginning with Bill Clinton. He recalls the time, the place, and the conversation, and his response to Jordan’s evasive response was: “Bitch, you know what time you called the president.” Who knew Steele was such a comedian? He is not, but he was certainly entertaining and humorous in his appearance and his takedown of Jim Jordan. Because of Jordan’s evasiveness, he is also likely on the subpoena list. It is amazing how many Republicans were quick to downplay this event, but now that everything is being shown the light of day, they tend to back down from their previous words. Jamie Raskin had enough of this behavior last week.

In a video from the hearing, Raskin confronted Georgia rep Andrew Clyde about his earlier contention that the insurrectionists appeared to be “normal tourists.” Clyde, in typical Republican fashion, tried to change the narrative by claiming that Raskin was “interpreting” his statement and not giving it verbatim. To humor Clyde, Raskin read Clyde’s statement back and asked—considering people had baseball bats, lead pipes, and other weapons—if Clyde stood by his words that they were “normal tourists.”

Clyde continued to try to twist Raskin’s words, and Raskin told him he had the opportunity to tell the American people what he meant, yet Clyde did not take that opportunity because he meant what he said in the first place. This is disgraceful. These Republicans are patently dishonest, yet they cannot even lie well. They absolutely must be subpoenaed before Congress to answer for their behavior before, during, and after the insurrection. The American public deserves to know the truth.
