Lauren Boebert can’t handle the truth

There is no educational prerequisite for serving in Congress. In fact, you’d never guess that someone like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had the benefit of good schooling. The Republican side of the aisle is rife with people with post-secondary degrees who act as if they’ve never read a thing in their life, and who’ve even come to disdain education for the masses. We all know people who don’t have a high school diploma, GED, or college degree but who are absolutely brilliant. A diploma or certificate doesn’t equate to intelligence, as life itself is often the greatest teacher if the learner is adequately receptive.

This brings us to Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) who dropped out of high school and obtained her GED after entering the race for her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. It’s good Boebert chose to get her GED, but it doesn’t seem to have had a positive effect on her warped world view. Boebert is one of those people who seems to have no kind of education in anything – not decency, not life skills, not manners, and certainly not knowledge of the government in which she plays an outsized role as a representative for the Centennial State. But now Boebert thinks we should take advice on education from her.

This weekend, Boebert tweeted a photograph of educators and wrote this: “Here’s a list of 5,000 teachers that need to be relieved of their positions.” Boebert said this because these educators have signed a pledge to defy laws banning the teaching of Critical Race Theory. CRT seeks only to teach the relationship between racism and our power structures, and it’s not the evil conservatives make it out to be. Furthermore, it’s generally addressed in higher education and not in K-12 history lessons. Boebert probably doesn’t know that, nor does she care; Boebert merely seeks to rile up the right wing that is so easily scared by fearmongering over things of which it knows little. It’s wholly wrong to call for the dismissal of educators just because they don’t want to ignore the systemic racism in this country.
