Meet the new Manhattan District Attorney who’s going to put Donald Trump in prison
Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance has spent two years building a comprehensive criminal case against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, and he recently empaneled a grand jury for the specific purpose of bringing criminal indictments. Vance will all but certainly indict and arrest Donald Trump before the end of the year. But here’s the thing: Vance is then retiring.
That’s placed newfound importance on the race to replace him. Alvin Bragg has won a close Democratic primary race, with several major news outlets finally declaring him the winner earlier today. Given the highly Democratic political leanings of Manhattan, Bragg is now a lock to win the general election later this year and become the new Manhattan District Attorney. This means Bragg will be inheriting the criminal case against Trump, and tasked with putting Trump on trial an in prison.
The good news, if you’re looking for Trump to be brought to justice, is that Alvin Bragg has some experience in taking on Trump. When he worked as a top official in the New York State Attorney General’s office, he repeatedly took civil action against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization – and won.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office recently partnered with the New York Attorney General’s office on the criminal case against Donald Trump. So it’s notable that Alvin Bragg has close ties to the AG’s office, because as the new DA, he’ll be working closely with them to take Trump down.
In other words, this is really bad news for Donald Trump. His best hope would have been if the new Manhattan DA were soft on him, or soft on white collar crime, or didn’t know how to prosecute a case. Instead Trump is getting stuck with a new Manhattan DA who’s been targeting his Trump’s fraud for awhile, and knows how to do it effectively. In other words, Trump really is going to prison.
