Why is the GOP still married to Putin?

A recent news item reported a commentator on Russian TV lamenting the dwindling support for Russia in Congress. GOP Sen. Rand Paul was singled out to as last pro-Russian lawmaker left in Washington. There was some credibility to that observation, as the late Sen. John McCain, in a 2017 speech on the Senate floor, specifically accused Rand Paul of “advancing the agenda of Vladimir Putin.”

But Rand Paul and Russia have a lot of help from other Trumpublican Putin puppets like Senators Mitch McConnell, Ron Johnson, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Lindsay Graham, and Reps. Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan. The deposed Con-in-Chief Trump continues disgustingly to grovel to Putin, just like he did throughout his toxic administration, and even preceding that historic disaster.

I’m a Baby Boomer who grew up in the 1960’s. Any American at that time who openly supported the policies of the former Soviet Union, was considered a traitor to our nation. The pre-Trump Republican Party lawmakers helped to lead the Cold War fight against the USSR before its collapse in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

But the deposed dictatorship has come full-circle. The post-Soviet Russian state has transmogrified under Vladimir Putin into a repressive and brutal totalitarian regime. Russia has once again become one of the biggest threats to America and other democratic nations.

Yet the Republican Party leaders have switched their allegiance from advancing the interests of the U.S., to promoting Comrade Putin and Russia’s agenda to divide and weaken America by curtailing voting rights, refusing to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol invasion, and failing to stand up to Former Boss Trump and his continuing tirade of falsehoods. GOP now stands for “Grovelers of Putin.”
