Donald Trump’s legal defense strategy for when he’s indicted has leaked, and it’s going to land him straight in prison
You only need a very basic familiarity with the criminal justice system to understand that Donald Trump now has a literally 99% chance of being criminally indicted in New York. Yet it turns out his handlers are telling him there’s nothing to worry about, as they appear to be trying to keep him sated instead of preparing him for what’s coming. Even worse for him, Trump’s people have given him the worst possible legal defense strategy for if he is indicted.
This all comes from a lengthy new Daily Beast expose, which reveals that Trump’s handlers are telling him that New York won’t “ever actually indict him” – which is almost hilariously delusional. Trump is also being told that if he is indicted, he can somehow magically get out of the charges simply by arguing that New York Attorney General Tish James is biased against him. To be clear, if Trump uses this strategy at trial, it’ll give him a 100% chance of being convicted.
Of course there is no legal defense strategy that Donald Trump can successfully use against financial charges this straightforward; the proof is right there in the financial documents, which is why conviction is nearly automatic. It’s why prosecutors are focusing on these kinds of financial crimes, and not just his broader crimes.
But it’s clear that Trump’s people are giving him the worst long term legal advice possible, with the aim of keeping him from getting upset in the short term. In other words, the ever-narcissistic Trump is surrounded by yes-men even more so now than ever – and it’ll end up helping to finish him off.
