Chuck Schumer is ready for war
Chuck Schumer has been getting ready for war with Republicans over voting rights, and just announced Democrats will finally start really fighting back when the Senate returns in June. Schumer will begin forcing public votes, on record, of popular legislation, including gun legislation and equal pay for women.
And finally, during the last week in June, there will be a vote on S1, The For the People Act voting legislation, which he is well aware will be absolutely necessary for the protection of our democracy. He is obviously confident that forcing the other votes earlier in the month will bring Manchin around to agree to reforming the filibuster in order to pass S1, at a minimum (if he hasn’t already in private), after witnessing evidence that McConnell will use it as a weapon against anything and everything Americans want and need.
Schumer also indicated he intends to possibly force another vote on the formation of a Jan. 6th commission at some time in the future. This has really backfired on McConnell and Republicans. Not only will any public Jan. 6th investigation be dragged into the 2022 election cycle, its manner of formation will be dragged on as well, and Republicans may be forced to mount a filibuster against formation of an independent, bipartisan commission twice before Democrats give up and go the partisan route.
Schumer accused Republicans of voting down the Jan. 6th commission, despite Democrats giving them everything they wanted, because they are afraid of Donald J. Trump, whom he described as a bane on the Republican party, our democracy, and America as a whole.
