Kevin McCarthy cuts and runs as press conference goes wrong for him
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is in over his head, to put it mildly. His House Republican caucus went along with his recent ouster of Liz Cheney, but the whole thing has turned into an embarrassment for the GOP – and now McCarthy is fumbling the January 6th commission quite badly.
To give you an idea of how badly it’s slipping away from Kevin McCarthy, he came out against the January 6th commission at the last minute, but 35 of his own caucus members defied him and voted for it anyway. Of course the real trouble is that McCarthy is a material witness, having reportedly spoken with Trump by phone while the Capitol was under siege. Other House Republicans were also allegedly communicating with the insurrectionists.
When McCarthy was asked about this during a press conference today, this happened:

Kevin McCarthy can cut and run from reporters’ questions, but he can’t run from the scandal at hand. There will be a January 6th congressional investigation with or without Republican participation, and it’ll get to the bottom of what certain House Republicans were really up to on that day. This is in addition to the DOJ’s ongoing criminal investigation into the Capitol attack, which has already resulted in hundreds of arrests and multiple cooperating plea deals. It’ll all come out in the end.
