Rachel Maddow reveals disturbing new Secret Service scandals
Earlier this month, excerpts from Pulitzer Prize winner Carol Leonnig’s new book revealed that multiple members of the Trump extended family allegedly had sexual relations with Secret Service members. This was salacious and got headlines. But it turns out the problems within the agency run much deeper and wider.
Rachel Maddow used her show tonight to interview Carol Leonnig and expose some of the most egregious Secret Service scandals in recent years. It turns out the agency fumbled things ranging from Obama-era attacks on the White House, to getting then-VP Dick Cheney into the bunker on 9/11.
But most disturbingly, multiple Secret Service agents have apparently been caught on social media voicing support for the January 6th Capitol invaders. This means that those agents aren’t just inept, they’re domestic terrorist sympathizers.
Of course Donald Trump spent four years thoroughly corrupting and compromising the Secret Service for partisan political reasons, and so now President Biden is left with an even bigger mess to clean up. We have confidence that he will succeed in this. But it’s disturbing to think that an agency known for its selfless heroism has been doing so little to police its own worst members.
