George Floyd just changed everything
This is the article I was not sure I’d ever get the chance to write. 4/20/2021. This day will go down in history. It’s the day a twelve-person Jury found Derek Chauvin guilty on all three counts for the murder of George Floyd.
Guilty of Second-degree murder. Guilty of Third-degree murder. Guilty of second-degree manslaughter. Guilty, guilty, guilty. Something tells me most of the readers of Palmer Report wanted this outcome. I certainly did. I will be honest and say that I never expected it. I worried. I worried throughout the trial.
Many people worried. Getting justice against a police officer seemed a near-impossible task, especially when the victim is a minority. My big worry was a hung jury. I said to myself: There’s always that one person who can dig in their heels and screw everything up. This is a time when I was wrong. And I am so giddily, glad to be incorrect.
It’s also a day of great news. The great news in politics does not come as often as the bad news. So, when it does come, we want and need to hold on to that feeling. It’s so vital to have hope. And with the verdict, the country has changed. There can and will be accountability. That is the message this Jury has sent out. I thank them for it.
We can’t ever bring George Floyd back. I wish we could. But today was a day we witnessed the best in humanity. It is a day that will go down in history and a day that will be studied, celebrated, and that will live on throughout history. Rest in Peace and Power, George Floyd. You did indeed change the world.
