As president Biden’s $1.9 trillion Covid-relief bill neared Congressional approval on Wednesday, Democrats were already thrilled. The American Rescue Plan was passed by the Senate last weekend after some changes were made since the last House approval. Although debates continued on the House floor prior to the vote (and they weren’t always pretty), House Democrats knew the bill would pass without any further alteration, and were happy and excited it would soon become law.

“This legislation represents the boldest action taken on behalf of the American people since the Great Depression,” said House Caucus Vice Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.). The House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-Mass.) said, “This is seismic legislation.”

President Biden had already emphasized this law would not only change the course of the pandemic and provide the greatest relief yet to Americans who have suffered for a year now due to the Covid pandemic, but it would also cut child poverty in half in the process while building a bridge toward economic recovery.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) arguably said it best, making Democrats across the country want to dance, when she channelled The Pointer Sisters, saying “I’m so excited, I just can’t hide it.”

No Republicans supported the bill, so they have nothing to dance about (in more ways than one), but the overwhelming majority of Americans supported it, and will no doubt be dancing as well when they all hear the good news: President Biden’s relief plan is now going to be signed into law.
