It’s been a terrible week for the Republicans

President Biden’s Covid relief bill is the most popular bill in years, with the overwhelming majority of Americans wanting it passed, but not one single House Republican voted for it. Only 3 voted for the Equality Act, even though the vast majority of Americans also want equal rights for all. (Is it just me, or have you noticed that Republicans seem more upset lately over transgender rights than abortion rights?)

GOP members also stuck their foot in their mouth all week. At the Congressional hearings on the insurrection, Senator Ron Johnson claimed “fake Trump supporters” were responsible. Dinesh D’Souza said they were just “a bunch of rowdy People walking through a hallway.” At another Congressional hearing, Rep. Andy Biggs blamed USPS delays on Antifa and BLM.

Many Republicans skipped out on debating and voting on the Covid relief bill, falsely claiming in writing this was due to “the ongoing public health emergency.” They actually went to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which is nothing short of a Trump love-fest this year. Sen. Hawley got a standing ovation when he bragged about voting against the election results.

How is President Biden supposed to achieve any unity with a party that embraces not only hateful partisan politics, but also white supremacy, misogyny, the Big Lie and propaganda in general, authoritarianism vs. democracy, violent insurrection, and idolatry (even rolling in a “golden calf” of Trump at CPAC that is the most grotesque-looking “sculpture” ever created). All that’s left for them to do now is endorse the leader of the Proud Boys, who stated this week that he was ready overturn the government by running for office.
