Republican Senator Ron Johnson had what could only be described as a monumental spell of amnesia, declaring, “This didn’t seem like an armed insurrection to me.” He went on to question, “How many firearms were confiscated? How many shots were fired? I’m only aware of one.”

Politifact quickly debunked Johnson’s comment, which didn’t take much digging. Ron, in his amnesia, must have forgotten the massive number of videos that were posted online. Insurrectionists had guns, explosives, knives, brass knuckles, tasers, and feces. The trouble is, Johnson knows this, and he doesn’t care.

Senator Johnson spent July 4, 2018, with seven other Republicans in Moscow. Johnson has been silent on that, relying only on released statements. Those statements state they were there to discuss supporting democracy in Russia and election meddling in Russia. Ron is well equipped to keeping his mouth shut when it benefits him.

This outburst was not a coincidence. Johnson has done much of the heavy lifting for Trump verbally. One has to wonder how the Senator can stand carrying so much weight?

Hearing him gaslight about firearms should not surprise anyone. Ron Johnson tied his political career to Trump in a messy, tangled way he cannot get untangled. Admitting an insurrection would mean he was wrong in casting his undying support to Trump in the end. Like Lindsey Graham, Ron has decided he’s all in and wants a favorable position in the new Trump political party that is inevitably coming.
