The Marjorie Taylor Greene scandal is pushing the Republican Party to its breaking point
Marjorie Taylor Greene has become big news lately, mainly due to her ongoing bizarre and hateful conspiracy theories. Much has been made of her views on everything from school shootings being fake news, to her views on the violent threats against Democrats. Actually, what her specific policy views are on anything beyond hatred and a continuing disdain for truth and fact, are difficult to tell.
The spineless Republicans have been mostly silent on her hateful rhetoric. Staying with their method of cowardice and pandering to the maga crowd, most of them have not said anything at all. But that changed tonight.
Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell put out a statement of sorts, kind of sort of condemning Greene’s remarks. He did not actually mention her by name which is not surprising. Greene fired back almost immediately by tweeting: “The real cancer for the Republican party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully. This is why we’re losing our country”. This tweet makes no sense at all but then again….we didn’t really expect it to.
Now McCarthy will likely do nothing but it is rumored he will be meeting with her this week, possibly as early as tomorrow. If he chooses to do nothing, Democrats will most likely move to strip her of her committee assignments.
One might ask the question of why Democrats waited at all but their move makes complete sense. They want the onus to be on Republicans as it should be. No matter what McCarthy does or does not do this can only hurt the Republicans at the ballot box. This week should be very interesting indeed.
