Vladimir Putin has just sent a clear signal that he’s changed his mind about Donald Trump and is cutting his losses. Putin installed Trump in the hope of having a puppet capable of doing his bidding, and of creating enough internal chaos in the United States that Americans wouldn’t be in a position to care what Russia might do on its own side of the world. But that’s backfired on Putin in numerous ways – and today he’s pulling the plug on Trump in a big way.

If you’ve followed the Trump-Russia scandal at all, you know that Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak has been at the center of it. He’s a former (and some would argue still current) Russian intelligence officer. He’s the one who secretly met with everyone from Michael Flynn to Jeff Sessions to Jared Kushner during the course of the the Donald Trump campaign. He’s the one Trump gave classified secrets to in the Oval Office. And now Kislyak is suddenly finished (source). That’s right, Vladimir Putin is now bringing the “Ambassador” home for good.

This is crucial because it means Putin is choosing to no longer have his puppet master over the Trump administration on hand in Washington. Maybe it means Putin has concluded that the Trump-Russia scandal is going to take Trump one way or the other, and he wants to insulate Russia from it. Or maybe he’s concluded that Trump is just too unstable and self destructive to be worth the continued investment. But the recalling of Kislyak is one of the biggest developments in the entire Trump-Russia saga to date.

By now the puppet Donald Trump was supposed to have lifted U.S. sanctions on Russia, but at this point it’s clear that even Trump’s own Republican Party is never going to let that happen for fear of the backlash. By now the incompetent Trump was supposed to have made the West so worried about its own side of the world that it would leave Russia free to invade mainland Ukraine and whatever else it’s targeting – but instead the West is watching Russia more closely than ever. The Trump presidency has been a failed gambit for Putin. No wonder he’s pulling the plug by bringing the puppet master Kislyak home. If you’re a regular reader, feel free to support Palmer Report
