George Takei just nailed it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

This morning Palmer Report explained that President Biden is only taking today’s meeting with ten Republican Senators because he can’t afford to be seen as refusing to take such a meeting. We also explained that Biden has all the leverage here, and that he can (and will) reject the Republicans’ COVID relief “compromise” unless they end up giving him almost everything he wants – which they won’t.

Unfortunately, a number of major media outlets have spent the day trying to frame this meeting as some kind of ‘test of Biden’s willingness to be bipartisan’ or some other such ‘both sides’ nonsense. The good news is that some folks get it.

For instance, actor and activist George Takei, who routinely reveals himself to be more politically insightful than most full-time political analysts, tweeted this: “Be careful of the GOP. The “proposal” they are bringing to Biden is something they know is DOA. They’re doing it to claim they tried to forge a bipartisan solution but Dems refused…but you don’t do that by offering mere crumbs when America needs real food on the table.”

This is absolutely correct. Senate Republicans are merely trying to paint themselves as having tried to find a bipartisan solution, so they have an excuse to vote against President Biden’s package when it’s introduced in the Senate. It’ll pass with fifty votes anyway, through reconciliation. But it’s crucial that we not allow the media to paint this as some kind of failure at bipartisanship on Biden’s part.
