We’ve unfortunately become used to bullying, inappropriate rhetoric, and unbecoming conduct from the right. We had a petty, vengeful, bullying, sleazy president before the poised and respectful President Biden took office. Under the previous administration, the already-crude Republicans just got worse as they were emboldened by their illiterate and crass commander in chief. And bullying language from sordid people with guns has only gotten worse. It’s one thing to have a gun and to be a responsible owner of weapons, but it’s another to use killing machines to harass, threaten, taunt, and intimidate others.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) are gun-obsessed, conspiracy-adhering ruffians. Just this week alone, we’ve witnessed Boebert attack Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg in social media, and Parkland father Fred Guttenberg released footage showing 40-something Greene harassing the teenaged Hogg in Washington, D.C. just months after the Parkland massacre. We’ve learned also that Greene’s colleague in the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), has had to move her office away from the office of the gun-loving, QAnon cultist Rep. Greene for her own safety and that of her staff. The conduct we see from Boebert and Greene is unsettling, unprofessional, and beneath the dignity of the office they hold.

We have a problem with guns, gun proliferation, and with some gun enthusiasts in this country. The situation isn’t tenable. Defense of the Second Amendment doesn’t extend to defending threating behavior and reckless taunts, yet the right wing seems to think it does. It’s unacceptable that we have gun-obsessed members of Congress like Boebert and Greene who employ antics that make others feel unsafe. We shouldn’t have congressional leaders who make citizens and colleagues feel threatened or targeted, yet here we are.
