This is costing the GOP everything

The GOP stuck with Trump all the way through the election, and it cost them the White House and the Senate. If they want to keep sticking with Trump’s ghost through the impeachment trial and beyond, it’ll just hurt them in 2022. Let them make this mistake if they want to. They’re not helping Trump or themselves. They’re unwittingly helping the rest of us.

Liz Cheney, a smart Republican villain, understands the big picture. It’s why she voted to impeach Trump. It’s why she’s waging war against the most Trump-like House Republicans. Kevin McCarthy, a dumb Republican villain, doesn’t understand the big picture. It’s why he’s trying to keep the Republican House married to Trump’s ghost.

We’re about to see a House Republican civil war play out between pro-Trumpers like McCarthy and anti-Trumpers like Cheney. We won’t be able to control which faction wins. But when it’s all said and done, the Republican Party will have done a tremendous amount of damage to itself. At this point we might as well just root for the GOP to finish itself off through this kind of idiocy.
