The real reason President Biden is getting what he wants

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It’s only been five days since President Biden moved into the White House, as we begin the first full week with a new Democratic administration, and predictably, the GOP are already trying to band together and oppose his efforts of progress with anything that will stick. Their latest move is to accuse Biden of hypocrisy – talking about “unity” while rightfully denouncing white supremacists and not catering to Mitch McConnell’s every whim.

Generally, pointing out the hypocrisy of politicians you disagree with, even when it is true, is a waste of time and wins you zero new voters – so this strategy is doomed from the start. Republicans also frequently complain about there being a lack of unity or civility when they can’t drum up any bipartisan support for things like tax cuts to their donors or privatizing social security.

Today, however, President Biden dropped a bomb on this partisan nonsense by clarifying his campaign remarks in a press conference: “Unity…is trying to reflect what the majority of the American people think is within the fulcrum of what needs to be done to make their lives, and the lives of Americans, better,” and not what the GOP’s leadership wants.

He went further, emphasizing that by unity he also meant a break from the toxic rhetoric that dominated right-wing media even before Donald Trump came along. While barely lifting a finger, Biden managed to dump it all back on the Republicans – making it clear that Democrats and much of the country are going to keep moving with or without them. With over 60% approval, it’s clear that a large number of Americans are behind President Biden already.
