It’s America again in America

Joe Biden is becoming President today. Kamala Harris is becoming Vice President today. Chuck Schumer is becoming Senate Majority Leader today. Raphael Warnock is becoming a Senator today. Jon Ossoff is becoming a Senator today. Donald Trump is becoming eligible for arrest today.

At one of the lowest points of the Trump era – and it’s a sign of trouble when there are multiple “lowest” points – I said that it was midnight in America. Now here we are as a county, more battered and bruised than ever, but the cavalry has arrived. In reality the cavalry was you all along, because you got the cavalry elected to office. But the cavalry is now here.

I won’t declare that it’s now morning again in America. There are still far too many lingering problems, from the pandemic to the economic collapse, to the battered state of our democracy. But the sun is now peeking up over the horizon. So I’ll go ahead and say that it’s America again in America. If you’ve spent the past four years wondering where your country went, you know precisely what I mean. Our work is just beginning. Onward and upward.
