Karl Rove has bad news for Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Right wing operative Karl Rove turned against Donald Trump a couple months ago, publicly demanding that Trump admit he lost the election and leave peacefully. Trump didn’t take that advice, and now as a result he’s been impeached again and he’s surely headed to prison.

Now Karl Rove has a new warning for Trump. Last night the news surfaced that Trump is planning to have Rudy Giuliani lead his Senate impeachment trial defense. We’re not sure where this fits with last week’s reporting that Trump cut Rudy off and refused to pay him the legal fees he owed him, but Trump land is nothing if not self contradictory.

In any case, Rove stated on Sunday that if Trump lets Giuliani lead his impeachment defense, then it’s very likely that Trump will be convicted.

For once we tend to agree with Karl Rove. There’s no clear headcount on whether there are enough Republican Senators willing to vote to convict Trump. But if Trump and Giuliani base their impeachment trial defense around the same deranged election conspiracies that incited the Capitol attack to begin with, Republican Senators are far more likely to conclude that it’s in their own best personal interests to vote to convict, so they can further distance themselves from Trump’s incitement.
