Get your popcorn: Looks like Donald Trump is putting Rudy Giuliani in charge of his impeachment trial defense

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

One of Donald Trump’s big problems, both in the various criminal trials he’ll eventually face, and in the Senate impeachment trial he’s about to face, is how he’s going to find a lawyer. His lawyers were mostly garbage to begin with, and now some of them have quit in the wake of his domestic terrorist attack.

Now the New York Times is reporting this evening that Trump is likely to pick Rudy Giuliani to lead his impeachment trial defense. If you find this confusing because Trump just finished announcing that he’s not paying Rudy the legal fees he owes him, you’re not alone. It speaks to just how incoherent Trump has become as his life collapses in on him.

Legal expert Daniel Goldman is pointing out that there would be severe ethics issues involved in Giuliani representing Trump in an impeachment trial over a domestic terrorist attack that they jointly incited.

We believe that if Rudy Giuliani does indeed handle Donald Trump’s impeachment trial defense, Giuliani’s utterly deranged and incoherent ranting would sharply increase the odds that Trump ends up convicted. Then again there’s the question of whether Giuliani would even be allowed into the Capitol building to give Trump’s defense, considering 1) Giuliani refuses to wear a mask, and 2) Giuliani recently incited a terrorist attack on that same building.
