Multiple police officers arrested for their role in U.S. Capitol attack
Earlier this evening the news broke that the Houston Police Department had ousted one of its officers for his alleged role in the U.S. Capitol attack, and that the officer was expected to be criminally charged. Now the DOJ has announced that two police officers from Virginia have been arrested for their roles in the attack.
The DOJ press release says that two officers were each charged with “one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.”
It’s worth noting that during its press conference this week, the DOJ stated that in many of these cases, the relatively pedestrian initial criminal charges could be upgraded to more serious charges once the full scope of the attack is mapped out.
In any case, we’ve reached the point where multiple police officers have now been arrested for their roles in what ended up being a deadly domestic terrorist attack against the highest elected officials in the United States government. There will likely be more such arrests before much longer.
